There was a time when street photography had a very little to do with how crisp your Goodyear welted oxfords were or how cleverly you managed to accessorize your double breasted blue blazer. A whole raft of amazing photographers looked to capture characters, unguarded moments and odd looking folk carrying on with their everyday business. Vivian Maier was one of the best. She was in fact a nanny for most of her life; shooting was her hobby. During her life Maier took more than 100,000 photographs, all of which went unseen until discovered by historian John Maloof a few years ago. Vivian Maier: Street Photographer, draws together some of her best work from the 50’s and 60’s in all its duotone glory. Available from Amazon.” (via)
